In the MYP Fine Art of Digital Photography course students will explore digital photography in relation to fine art. Students will learn technical aspects to include ISO, Aperture, Shutter & Shutter Speed, Exposure, Light, White Balance, and Depth of Field. Students will also study photography through a fine arts lens to include how to look at and critique photography, photographic vocabulary, and use visual art composition tools such as framing, rule of thirds, texture, pattern, lines, symmetry, perspective, culture, space, balance, color, and black and white photography. Teaching through the eyes of the disciplinarian, students will be introduced to well-known historic and contemporary photographers’ products, processes, and philosophies. Students will produce art work and will be asked to participate in class discussion to better understand the conceptual and theoretical characteristics of the digital media as it pertains to art and art making. Emphasis will be placed on the students' development in understanding photography as a means of storytelling, documenting, preserving, communicating, and personal expression.
